Lightyear: The World Doesn’t Want Wokeness

Updated: Jul 31, 2022

When Pixar’s Lightyear was first announced in 2020, I was stoked. I’ve always loved the character of Buzz Lightyear (voiced by the amazing Tim Allen in the Toy Story franchise), and so the thought of a stand-alone Sci-Fi feature with our favorite hero excited me. The first looks and teasers looked amazing: I mean, who wouldn’t want to watch an animated film with a poster like this??

It looked epic. Thennn Disney happened.

When the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill was introduced in Florida, Disney came under criticism by the Libs for its lack of LGBTQRSTUV representation in its films. Don’t get me wrong, Disney had tried to appease them: a stray minor gay character here or there or a passing reference to a woman’s “girlfriend.” But that was not enough to please. It makes one ask the question: “Why is Disney being pitted against the Liberal mob? Haven’t they been in cahoots all along?” The answer is simple.

At this point in time, Disney exists for one purpose: money. It’s a money-hungry monster. They are some of the best businessmen in the world and they know what’s going to sell. Why do we think that Disney has made so so so many remakes and sequels and spinoffs? Because it’s easy money. Guaranteed hits (usually).

As much as they might not like it, Disney knows that the majority of the world has not yet subscribed to the woke, homosexual agenda and that they don’t want to see that junk. Especially not in a children’s movie. When creating Lightyear, Disney knew this. It is said that despite an underlying gay relationship being present in the story, Disney had initially chosen to cut out the scene with the gay kiss. Why? Because they were trying to pander to all sides and not lose money. But with the harsh criticism and pressure coming from their so-called ‘allies,’ they reinstated the scene.

The result is that Lightyear is a woke piece of propaganda. That is not to say that it is not a good movie. I’m sure that the story is well written and packs an emotional punch, and I know the visuals are stunning (probably some of Pixar’s best ever). I genuinely feel for all the amazing, hardworking artists who have to see their film suffer due to a woke agenda. I was planning to go watch this movie. I was planning to take some of my siblings to go see a really cool film. But we didn’t. Because we will not support this kind of brain-washing propaganda. I’ve been told that the majority of the “gay stuff” happens within the first fifteen minutes of the film. However, one of the key characters throughout the rest of the film is the granddaughter of the earlier lesbian woman who, believe it or not, somehow managed to have a child with another woman. I suppose it is a sci-fi movie so maybe they get a pass. Mmm nope, they don’t, because their purpose isn’t to show some strange sci-fi entity, their entire purpose is to normalize the idea of people having sex with, marrying, or, sure, having children with someone of the same gender. We see Disney, again, trying to tread water by subtly keeping the blatant “gayness” in the first few minutes of the film, but it didn’t work.

Disney’s fear of going too far was well-founded, and they lost our money. And, apparently, they lost a lot of other people’s money as well. It made a depressing $50.6 million its opening weekend, which, for a Pixar film, is nothing short of a flop. The budget for Lightyear was around $200 million, so they have a long way to go to make their money back. To add to the mess, due to the overt homosexual scene, Lightyear was banned from opening in seventeen different countries, including China which is a huge market for American films. According to this article from The Hollywood Reporter, only about 38% of the people going to see Lightyear on its opening weekend were families. Apparently, people actually don’t want a woke agenda to be fed to their children.

Now, is it possible that there were other factors contributing to Lightyear’s failure? Of course. But Disney’s fear of showing the scene coupled with its huge loss of money, it seems pretty clear to me that wokeness is tearing up Hollywood.

If we contrast this with Top Gun: Maverick, which made $126.7 million its opening weekend, we see that people are tired of the woke agenda and just want to see a good film. Top Gun is patriotic and exciting. It’s pushing a story, not an agenda.

So, Disney, I hope that you’ve learned your lesson. People are sick of the wokeness. We want good, wholesome, fulfilling movies, not sick and disgusting agendas. Maybe if you heed that warning next time, you’ll make some money.
